The Office of Worship of the Diocese of Richmond has communicated that, in case of extreme weather, obligations to attend Mass are suspended if you cannot safely attend. They have offered the following suggestions to spiritually unite yourself to the Mass and thus fulfill the Lord’s commandment to “keep the sabbath day holy.”
- Watch the Basilica of Saint Andrew Livestream Mass or some other online Catholic Mass.
- Pray with the Propers for the Mass, the opening collect, and the Sunday Mass readings
- Pray the Liturgy of the Hours as a family: Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer.
- Make an act of Spiritual Communion, such as this one from Saint Alphonsus Liguori:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if you were already there,
and I unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
